Jules has a mostly brindle coat with a black and white face, and white on his chest and front legs.


PROFILE
Jules is a sweet senior who is easy-going, super-charming, very loving, and extremely friendly--not to mention stunningly handsome! Always good company for adults, Jules will center his life around you, be by your side as much as you want, and will love you unconditionally.

He is great with the cats in his foster home. As a cat-is-better-than-no-company kind of dog, he enjoys their presence, and would like to play with them--if only they knew how! But, as they don't, he leaves them alone.

Jules is easy to walk on a leash, and although he is still learning to not pull, he is not pulling strongly. He happily follows his nose, delighting in all the new smells to sniff. He is smart, and quickly picked up crate-training and house-training. And, hey, have you ever seen another dog who could curl his tongue?

Despite a miserable start at life and much neglect, he does not hold any grudges. All he wants is to love and be loved and cared for. This gentleman is a real catch!

HEALTH
Jules is up-to-date on vaccinations and microchipped, and is scheduled to be neutered at the end of January. He tested positive for heartworm, and is undergoing a gentle protocol, which starts with 28 days of doxycycline and twice monthly ivermectin (Iverhart or Heartgard or Tri-Heart), followed by twice monthly ivermectin for a year.

With the gentle protocol, no excessive confinement is required. Dogs should not be out in the heat for long periods of time, and should not engage in heavy exercise until they test negative for heartworms. Heavy exercise that should be avoided includes full-speed running for any distance, jogging more than a short distance such as one block, repetitive ball chasing, and high-energy play with other dogs. Leash walking is fine in most cases, as long as they do not get winded and it is not too hot.

Most dogs will test negative for heartworms within a year using this method. So Jules should test negative in February 2023.

HISTORY
Jules's owner had to move and could no longer keep him.
