Personality Description: They are sweet, goofy, loving, and playful. They were living on a farm together but have been abandoned.

History: Wrinkles and Buddy were abandoned by their owner and are now living in the yard of the vacant house. Despite their abandonment, they are so loving to people and other animals, and just want a home to call their own. They are being spayed/neutered and vaccinated this week.

Appa

Physical Description: Appa is a beautiful Golden Retriever. He is large and strong with a gorgeous white coat.

Personality Description: Appa is an affectionate and loving dog 99% of the time. He is somewhat anxious and quirky, but in an endearing way. He loves to bring you pillows and slippers when you come home and tries to imitate ambulance sirens! He loves to go on walks and to be outside, but less so in the Florida weather. Unlike many Goldens, he is also a good guard dog. He is wary of strangers but can be fairly easily won over with treats. He is very food motivated. He has resource guarding issues with other dogs. We have to feed him separately from our other senior dog. He has had no experience with cats.

History: Despite all of his endearing traits, Appa also has a bite history. While these incidents have been rare (a few times a year), we have not been able to eliminate them. He suffers from recurrent ear infections -- it is possible that these incidents are related to pain, but it remains a mystery to us. We have eliminated chicken from his diet (a suspected allergen) and more recently started him on daily benadryl (in case there are also environmental allergens). Although he loves our sons, he needs a home with no children, no other dogs, plenty of outside exercise, and someone who will impose a clear hierarchy in the home. He has been trained on the e-collar but we haven't used it consistently.

Yoshi

Physical Description: Yoshi is a beautiful blotched tabby with distinct black and brown markings and very soft, sleek hair. He is a stocky 11-12 pounds.

Personality Description: Yoshi has a vibrant personality with a bit of attitude, a lot of playfulness, and is very social with humans. His favorite past times are chasing ribbons, cuddling with his favorite humans, sitting in boxes, and eating! He was rescued in 2019 from a feral situation but has lived comfortably in a multi-cat and dog household since then. He plays rough so would be best in a household with a young male cat or a dog. He is well-mannered, uses his litter box, eats very well, and is up to date on all vaccines.

History: Yoshi was rescued from someone trying to throw him away at the city dump. Thankfully city workers heard him and saved his life - he is a lucky boy! He has since been neutered and is up to date on all vaccines, spending the past 4 years in a loving and multi-animal household. Yoshi has no medical issues, aside from being a bit food-motivated.

History: We adopted him almost a year ago from an older couple who were rehoming their three mastiffs. He assimilated to our home well, but then started going after our two year old daughter. For her safety we need to rehome him.

Henny Kai

Physical Description: Henny Kai is a small/medium size dog. He is very strong and muscular. He is a red/sesame color. He has white paws and white face. He is a double coat breed, so he has lots of fluffy fur. He has the signature Shiba curled tail.

Personality Description: He is very playful and enjoy walks and being outside. He has spouts of very high energy and enjoys playing fetch. He enjoys bird watching, or really any kind of window watching. He enjoys laying outside in the sun. He loves belly rubs and being brushed. His favorite places to be pet are his ears and his hind legs. He thrives the best in fenced in yards, so he can freely roam as he pleases. He has not been around cats since he was a puppy, so I am not sure how he would do if the household had cats. I would consider him dog selective. He takes time to get used to other dogs, but when he does, they get along great! We currently live with a German Shepherd in the house, and they are almost inseparable. He knows the basic commands (i.e. sit, stay, "paw", etc.)

History: He is 7 years old. He has been treated for demodectic mange and a slipped disc in his neck (he is a puller, so I switched back to a harness after this injury). He has seasonal allergies that flare up, but with good brushing and Cytopoint injections during the flare ups, it's easily maintained. I also have him on a salmon-based diet. I have seen the most progress in his allergies and skin since converting him to Taste of the Wild - Ancient Stream food. He has shown signs of resource guarding, which I have been unable to resolve through at home training. There has been an incident in which he was near his bag of food, and I was unaware of him guarding it and was bitten. I was under the impression I had resolved this issue, but it seems I have not.

History: Adopted from Shultz Guest House rescue up in Massachusetts. Had him from a puppy and he's gotten all his shots and is up to date with everything. No bite history but a few snaps at little kids who got in his face.

Physical Description: Sylvester is a young, neutered cat with a clipped left ear. He has "tuxedo" patterning with a distinctive mustache-like marking on his snout. He weighs 12 pounds, seeming all muscle.

Personality Description: Though skittish at any sudden movements, Sylvester warms up quickly to new people and becomes affectionate. He is more interested in attention and pets than food. He exhibits no fear of children, dogs, or other cats. He's incredibly gentle when playing. We've never seen him hunting animals outside, instead he sleeps all day in our lawn chairs.

History: Sylvester showed up in our backyard in mid-May. We believe he was abandoned by neighbors when they moved away. Though we have posted his information on social media and lost pet directories, no one has come forward to claim him. He has no microchip. As far as we can tell, Sylvester has only ever been an outdoor cat. It took a good bit of coaching to coax him onto our screened-in porch. We can't let him inside because our two cats are not as easy-going as him, but he very much wants to come indoors now. We think Sylvester would make a good indoor cat and graze on his food.

Personality Description: Smart and gentle. He is energetic when he’s in alert mode and loves toys and tugging games. He’s halfway there on fetch. He has shown a kind of amazing discretion. He ONLY chews his designated toys and in four weeks never went after shoes or furniture or anything else. He’s also surprisingly calm when in that mode and sleeps through the night, sometimes on the floor, sometimes in bed with one of us.

History: Simba grew up with another family who had to let him go for allergy reasons, spent a couple of weeks in the Orange County animal shelter, and has been with our family now for about four weeks. He’s smart and attentive and extremely lovable – except that he can’t get used to living with our cat. And she was here first.

History: Aries has been living on a chain in a rural area outside of Durham. The owner is financially unable to care for her any longer, and reached out to us for help. While IAR does not typically accept owner surrenders, Aries falls into an exception category because she is not safe living on a chain. We are seeking an adopter or a foster for Aries! She has had her rabies shot, and will be updated on the rest of her vaccines if we can get a foster for her.

History: Silver has been living on a chain in a rural area outside of Durham. The owner is financially unable to care for him any longer, and reached out to us for help. Personality Description: Initially sweet, calm. He has been changed by his seizures and the medication. For the most part he is docile and loving, but may suddenly become aggressive; aggression is mild, but his behavior is unpredictable.

History: Last June I adopted a sweet, calm, beautiful Siberian Husky from a local animal shelter. He is about 1 1/2 years old and for the first 3-5 weeks behaved as one would expect. Then suddenly he started having seizures and with the seizures came aggressive behavior. He is now on anti-seizure medication. I took him to have an MRI; his brain scan was fine. I worked at trying to decrease the aggression with additional training which helped considerably. His behavior is much improved, but he continues to have seizures. He has been seen by a Neurologist and is on three different seizure medications. He has been changed by his seizures and the medication. For the most part he is docile and loving, but may suddenly become aggressive; aggression is mild, but his behavior is unpredictable. He loves to go for walks, play fetch and chew, sometimes on things he shouldn’t. He should be an outside dog in a home with a minimum of two adults that can share in responsibility for his medications.

History: These two were separated from their mother at 2 weeks old and adopted by my neighbor and his partner. My neighbor passed unexpectedly a few weeks ago and his partner has moved back home. Showing little care or concern for the kittens before her departure, I took them in knowing they would at least avoid the shelters and be safe and loved until I could find them a furever home. They are up to date of shots and healthy, they are not yet fixed which I am willing to do and can be discussed further with interested parties.
