Apollo

Listing Date: March 18, 2024

Birth Date: October 27, 2023

Weight: 32 pounds

Breed: Collie Mix

Spayed/Neutered: Yes

Vaccination Status: Up to date

Physical Description: Black & White in color, small for his size, skinny for his mix but is fit as a fiddle and very talented on his hind legs.

Personality Description: Lovable, happy, independent, loyally, loves to scout ahead on hikes, loves kids, good with cats and other dogs. loves to run around and sniff life. Most fearless dog I have ever met. Very resilient and loves to cuddle!

History: Found him sifting in a garbage can while I was on a walk with my other dog. He was skinny, malnourished, and looked like he'd been injured. After gaining his trust, I put a collar and leash on him and was able to get him in my car, home to a warm bath, food, and love. After taking him to various vets, he had no chip, was about 1 year or younger, and quite healthy considering. Other than that, that's all that I know about his history.

Gilly

Listing Date: March 3, 2024

Birth Date: January 1, 2018

Weight: 14 pounds

Breed: orange domestic short hair tabby

Spayed/Neutered: Yes

Vaccination Status: current as of Feb. 2024

Physical Description: Gilly is a neutered, 5 year old, orange domestic short-haired tabby. He weighs about 14 lbs. He's more muscle than fat.

Personality Description: Just call me chilly Gilly. I’m generally a laid-back dude. My priorities in order are sleep, food, a bit of play time, and the occasional pet. While I’m not an attention seeker, I usually don’t like being alone and will hang out in the same area as my peeps. I'm usually curious and will check out strangers and I’m happy for you to rub my cheek and forehead, but I won’t pester you to get on your lap or insist on getting attention. If you go outside, I’ll keep you company and monitor the work you’re doing in the yard. For now, my temporary caregivers are keeping me indoors. I seem to be OK with it, but I do have the ability to go out on the screened porch and get fresh air. While I’m chill with animals of the adult human kind, I’m not so sure about the young ‘uns. I prefer quiet and solitude. As for other cats, all I can say is I’m not happy (hiss) with the tuxedo stray that’s been hanging out on the front porch. Finally, I take an interest in dogs when they walk by but couldn’t tell you whether I get along with one. Sometimes my current caregivers say I’m an alien in a cat suit because I don’t do things that I’m “supposed” to do as a cat. For example, I’m not a heat seeking kitty. You won’t find me in a sunbeam or trying to get on your lap to get warm. Also, hanging out in boxes, hiding under covers, and knocking items off tables aren’t my thing. I insist that I’m a cat and can prove it. I don’t come when you call. I like to bat at tossed paper balls and chase my favorite fluffy wand toy. Most importantly, I go to the bathroom in that square plastic bin with the ucky grit!

History: My shelter paperwork says I was born in 2018 making me about five years old. Plenty of good years left in me. I don’t remember anything about my first owner. My second owner had me for a year and then decided they didn’t want me anymore and took me to a shelter in November 2022. I’m not sure what I did to deserve that. Life at the shelter was a bit lonely as I was in a cage most of the time. Then in April 2023 Helen came and gave me a loving home. Unfortunately, she became very ill and I’ve been staying with temporary caregivers. Although Helen’s better now, taking care of my litter and making sure I can get to the vet when needed is a bit too much for her. So my caretakers are trying to find me a forever home. Healthwise, I recently had updated vaccine shots and a check-up. Now that I’m five years old and no one took good care of my teeth, they could use a cleaning. At some point in my early years, my back leg was hurt so I don’t jump on counters or tables that are too high. I will jump on a couch or bed, but usually prefer to lie on the floor. Despite the leg issue, I still do great zoomies around the room.

Jake

Listing Date: February 27, 2024

Birth Date: March 26, 2014

Breed: black and white cat

Spayed/Neutered: Yes

Vaccination Status: Rabies Vaccine: 3Year due 5/16/2024 FVRCP: 3 Year due 05/30/ 2025

Physical Description: Approximately 11 lbs

Personality Description: friendly, likes to be petted, sits on your lap loves to eat and not picky about his food

History: He has always been an indoor cat and developed asthma around 2 y/o. Until last year, I've been able to control it with Prednisone. Unfortunately, over the years it has worsen and now I have to give him Fluticasone and Albuterol using inhalers. I have a disability, so now it has become more and more difficult to treat him several times a day. This has also become a big expense for the 2 drugs. I've been controlling his weight to help him to no avail, so now I wonder if it's only the environment in my house and/or living in the country that is effecting his health as he has gotten older. I have checked my duct work, air quality, etc in my house, but everything is fine there. He is also on Prozac to stop him from picking on my other two 14 y/o cats who are both on a special diet and I'm having to feed them in a private room. I believe if he is the only cat in the household, he will be able to come off the Prozac. I also have a dog and they both get along fine and basically they leave each other alone. Will you please help us please? PS He's being treated at Bahama Rd Vet and has had x-rays and blood work to diagnose his condition.

Betty Spaghetti

Listing Date: February 19, 2024

Birth Date: February 1, 2021

Weight: 75 pounds

Breed: German Shepherd

Spayed/Neutered: Yes

Vaccination Status: Up To Date

Physical Description: Betty is a spayed 3-4 year old Germand Shepherd rescued a few months ago from a high kill shelter and is looking for her forever home. She has a beautiful thick coat that is mostly black and tan and soulful brown eyes.

Personality Description: Betty is super loving, loves to give kisses and play with squeeky toys (her duck is her favorite and has gone through many surgeries to repair partial decapitations, eek!). If you need help waking anyone up, simply give her a good rub in your hallway and let her tail thump on the walls lol! She's fairly moderate in energy level, she's just as happy to catch a good nap as she is to run around outside. Betty needs to be an only dog and is still leash reactive to other dogs. We are continuing our work on that issue with her trainer.

History: Betty was rescued from a local kill shelter back in November with no known background. She is 3-4 years old, spayed, house-trained, dog-door trained and about 75 pounds and up to date on all vaccines and flea & tick meds. Since her rescue we've been working on her training. Betty has just about mastered heel, sit, stay, come and down. Betty needs to be an only dog at all times and is not good with small animals. Betty is also under professional training with a trainer based in El Segundo. Her training goes with her so that her new family can continue all of the great work she has already accomplished. Betty would be great for the person looking for a loving dog as well as some one looking for a dog that could make would-be burglers think twice.

Rayden

Listing Date: February 19, 2024

Birth Date: April 8, 2015

Breed: Cat American Short hair

Spayed/Neutered: Yes

Vaccination Status: no current vaccinations

Physical Description: spayed female, all white, with blue eyes, unfortunately deaf, 9 years old, dob is an estimate.

Personality Description: She is 9 years old and was rescued when she was a kitten. She is curious and sweetish as she will hang out in whatever room you are in. She will sleep on you at night, push into your hand to be petted at night and be a bit playful, but she can be cranky too. She is NOT a lap kitty. She is harness trained and explores the outdoors on a tether - this because she is deaf. She has been a house cat otherwise. She cannot stand other cats or dogs in the house or “in her space” outside – she tried to chase away a doe one time. She will hiss and/or growl and strike when it’s all too much - I know this due to a few feral cats that try to hang out. She is not great with kids, but she has warmed up to my 5-year-old niece. This little soul needs a home where she will be the only animal in the home.

History: Rescued when she was a kitten in May 2015. Lived with 3 humans, she did not like it when a baby arrived in 2016. Was fixed before she was 2 years old but well after she was 6 months old. Came to live with me as of June 2017, always a house cat. Now needs a new home where there are no other cats or dogs in the home.

Slinky

Listing Date: January 31, 2024

Birth Date:

Breed: Domestic Shorthair

Spayed/Neutered: Yes

Vaccination Status: All vaccinations up-to-date (records are available from the Cat Hospital of Durham & Chapel Hill)

Physical Description: All-black and short-haired coat

Personality Description: Slinky is looking for a forever home where he can run and play and snuggle up with a microfiber blanket to make biscuits on. The shelter he came from estimated his age to be 10, but he definitely doesn't act like it! He loves to play with toys and rubber bands alike and bird watch on a screened in porch. He is very trusting, docile, and gentle with people and melts their arms when they pick him up.

History: Unfortunately, Slinky doesn't get along well with one of our other cats. He gets along great with our calm, senior cat and dog and he often snuggles up with them for naps. The other more dominant cat and him just seem to clash, so we're trying to find him a new home where he can be just as loved but also feel a little less anxious. Before we adopted him, he'd been in the shelter for 9 months, so he's been looking for a forever home for a while. We want nothing more for him to find a good home where he'll be well cared for and loved.

If interested in Slinky, contact Caterina at [email protected].

TabTab

Listing Date: January 13, 2024

Birth Date: November 15, 2018

Weight: 5.84 pounds

Breed: Domestic Shorthair

Spayed/Neutered: Yes

Vaccination Status: No known vaccinations at this time. I am afraid of over vaccinations, and the negative effects - with all my pets in my care.

Physical Description: I have a male cream orange tabby cat. He may be a Scottish Fold breed. His right eye has recently been removed.

Personality Description: TabTab is a male cream orange tabby cat. He may be a Scottish Fold breed. His right eye has recently been removed and neutered on 11-15-23.

History: TabTab was recently previously one of my community cat strays that had been eating from my front door feeder that I feed for the community cats, here in my neighborhood for over a year, for quite some time now. He showed up one night with a terrible eye injury as well as a wound on his leg. Two veterinarians that I had taken the cat to told me the eye needed to be removed and ultimately, the best decision for the stray cat was to be euthanized, especially after being tested positive for FIV. He tested NEGATIVE for FeLV antigen, and NEGATIVE for Heartworm Antigen. I was distraught by this, but the vet told me that he can still continue to have a happy life with FIV, even with other cats that do not have FIV and with other pets. So, I decided to take care of the eye removal and neuter for this cat and help him heal and recover and to help find him a home afterwards. I am rehoming this cat because I already have 2 dogs and a stray cat that I have taken in as well. One of my dogs is animal aggressive and it is already a lot of work trying to keep the peace in my home with the one cat we have and making sure all animals are safe and don't get injured. The birth date I have given is an estimate given from the veterinarian.
