All About Me

Sampson is a chunky, dark yellow lab mix with some white mixed in, and satellite-up ears. He has the fluffy, mushable ruff of a German shepherd and a shortish, bushy tail. He has a few scars on his face from his previous life.

Sampson, aka Sammie, aka Prince Among Dogs, is a really sweet guy! He loves to be petted. When you scratch his butt, he starts marching--and when you stop, he backs into you to politely request more!
Sammie is definitely a couch-potato dog, content to just lounge around; at night he likes to curl up in his bed next to yours. This sweet boy is a little shy still, just coming into a new situation. But in the brief time he's been with his foster person, he has started giving warm, waggy greetings at the door. He is housebroken, quiet, and so nice and calm, and looking into his eyes is like looking into a pond of still water. This Prince Among Dogs is great with the two resident dogs in his foster home (see him sleeping next Lucas, once an IAR foster, now adopted), and his forever home will also need to have at least one dog to keep him company.
He's accumulating fans. Here's what a couple of them say: "I have never met a dog that just sells himself! Whenever I look at him, he raises his legs for belly rubs, like he's saying, 'You're all the way over there, but I know you want to come pet me.'" . . . "Gosh, Sammie, you're so sweet, I can't believe it. You look at me and I melt. I only wish I could take you home!"

History

Sampson, along with several other dogs, came to us from a rural county, where many dogs that people didn't want were taken in by a lovely couple. The wife passed away and her disabled husband cannot care for all the dogs, and so he’s working with local rescues to find good homes for them.

IAR Sponsored Training

IAR subsidizes post-adoption professional training with Jane Marshall (www.cheerydogs.com) to encourage a life-long and successful bond between the dog and the adopter. Group classes for puppies and adult dogs are provided at a substantial discount to IAR adopters.
