Physical Description: Raleigh, an Akita mix, is a big boy. (More regular exercise will help to trim him down just a tad.) He has brown on his face and ears and a mostly white body, punctuated with light brown spots, the color of barely toasted marshmallows. He has a soft, thick, short coat. When excited, he holds his tail curled over his back, in Akita fashion.

Personality: Raleigh is a gem, and you'll know it as soon as you meet him. He loves meeting new people and dogs, interpreting human and doggie social cues appropriately. Raleigh adores walks, always fluffing his tail over his back and dancing in excitement! He walks very well on a leash and does not pull. He is very much a "gentle giant." He enjoys head scratches and will nudge you with a cold, wet nose to let you know he appreciates the attention. When the petting gets good, he will flop on his back to invite you to rub his belly and chest. Raleigh is happiest when he is around people; no matter what you are doing, he is super content to just lounge near you! Raleigh is crate trained, knows Sit, Shake, and Up-Up where he will gently get on his hind legs and dance with you. He is currently learning other commands, too, like Settle and Down. Raleigh is a great companion animal and would do best in a low-energy setting with few male visitors.

History: Raleigh was found as a stray in, you guessed it, Raleigh. He was found by a rescuer who was unable to keep him at her home due to her reactive dog. She had hoped to find a home for him, but didn't have the resources or connections to get Raleigh adopted. He has been kenneled at a boarding facility since the end of Jan 2017, and came into IAR in mid-June.
