Taylor is a soft, short haired, black & tan tortoiseshell lady with green eyes.

Taylor is an extremely sweet and gentle young cat who has raised her kittens and is now happily living indoors with her new cat friends. She is still quite shy but gentle pets, soft words and patience encourage her to come quietly to you as well as enticing her with wet food. She loves the cats in her foster home and is eager for their company. You will often see her rubbing up and head butting with her cat friends or hanging out with them on the screened porch. Taylor seems to love cats more than people and will do best in a quiet and multi-cat home.

Taylor was rescued with her kittens from an apt complex in Durham in July of 2020.

Brown Tabby

My name is Arnez J, not to be confused with the comedian. Though my foster family does think I am a bit of a character. I am a very handsome 11 month old brown tabby that was found living in a feral colony in Chapel Hill, but my amazing rescuer saw so much potential in me and took a chance, so here I am.
It took a little while for me to warm up to the inside life. I was just a bit frightened by my foster sister, a 65lb Shar-Pei, but now she lets me think I intimidate her when I decide her bed is mine. I love playing with my foster brothers, one in particular because he is younger and can keep up with me. I like to spend my days bird/squirrel watching out the back window and hiding in boxes waiting for my next unsuspecting victim (my foster brother) to surprise.
I am not what you would call a lap kitty, but I do visit my foster parents every morning and evening in bed and like to play more than cuddle. My mom keeps telling me to take it easy with the purring because I might wear out the loud engine I have (which runs most of the time) hehe.
I definitely need to find a home that has another energetic and accepting kitty or kitties around my age (11 months). I would probably be ok with a non-aggressive doggie, but that could take me some time for me to build the trust up. I would probably not be the best around small children because my playing sometimes gets a little rambunctious.

Coal, a.k.a. Coal kitty, cool cat, or lil dude, as his foster parents like to call him, is an all black cat with jade green eyes. At around 8lbs, he’s a small yet mighty guy.

Coal is a sweet boy looking for a place to live out his golden years. Beloved by many volunteers, he comes complete with a little IAR fan club - we just love him! Coal’s favorite thing to do is curl up in his “bedybye basket” (his bed) and become a cuddle puddle of black fur and beautiful green eyes. He’s a relaxed fellow with a penchant for seafood flavored snacks and treats. He comes running at the sound of a can being opened. He’ll even weave between your legs as if to say “I’m right here, ready for dinner!”

A lifelong lover of the outdoors, our Coal will do best in a home with lots of windows or even a sunroom. Coal hopes to find a patient, loving owner who can brush him to help with his grooming and love on him to help with his continued adjustment to the indoors. Coal lived the better part of a decade as a beloved outdoor neighborhood cat in Chapel Hill. In fall 2020, IAR volunteers that feed our feral colonies noticed Coal was looking a bit skinny. In early 2021, Coal “retired” from the streets to undergo hyperthyroid treatment and is now adjusting to indoor life.

My name is Ophelia Owl because of my mane and my wide yellow eyes. I have a sweet little chirpy meow that is way cuter than a hoot of an owl and I like it when you talk back to me. I am a very sweet and loving kitten and I spent my early months outside but am adapting well to the ways of indoor life. I enjoy sitting near you while you pet me and cuddle gently and I also love watching TV. I LOVE food and I am very curious about everything.

I'm still hesitant of quick movement and loud noises so I would do best in a calm home of a single person or a couple with no kids. I know I can be the perfect companion for someone who has the patience and time to give me while I come out of my shell. I'm still young so I would like to be adopted with Olive so we can continue our journey of life together. Grooming and playing with Olive is one of my favorite parts of my day.

Playful with personality! I love playing with my toys, climbing furniture and watching birds, squirrels and people through the window. I like to lay on my back with my front paws on my chest like an otter. I love keeping you company while you work or sit around. Cuddling is one of my favorite activities and I will purr on your lap and sleep next to you. I also love playing and spending time with my friend Ophelia.

I would like to be adopted with Ophelia so we can continue on our journey together. I will need some time to adjust in the beginning but once I'm comfortable I will be your best friend! I spent my first months of life outside but I have adjusted very well to living indoors. No young kids please and I would prefer someone who spends more time at home.

Wiley is a gorgeous dilute tortie with a lot to chat about!

A petite, adventurous girl with the cutest round face, light beauty mark on her chin, and bright emerald green eyes. Wiley has pawsitive tortitude, which adds to her charm and she will pay you back in love ten fold!

Wiley is very observant and may be cautious with new places, but once she soaks it all in she will be your BFF in no time. She is a very social cat who loves to hang out with her person receiving attention and cuddling, playing, or joining you in activities around the house. Wiley loves sunny window spots, lounging in the sun, birdwatching, and making biscuits in soft blankets.

If Wiley could ask for a few things for her forever home, we believe she would ask for great sunny windows where she can birdwatch, a big cat tree to hang out on, and someone who enjoys chatting with their cat! Wiley is a wonderful cat and she will be her best self in a calm household with adults and teenager or above.

Wiley was found in the community as a stray where she had befriended several employees at numerous restaurants, along with others near the shopping center.

Creamsicle is a beautiful ginger-and-white adult cat with a kitten’s personality. In between cat naps, she plays energetically with toys and frequently watches the birds and squirrels from the windows. She adapted quickly to her foster home and immediately commandeered the blanket on the couch placed there for her, usually scampering across the room to join her foster there for a “petting-fest”. She is curious and explores new toys and spaces with little hesitation, and often follows her foster around.

Creamsicle is friendly to adults but not enamored of dogs. Because she is so lively, she may enjoy the company of another similarly active cat; she would do best in a home with teenagers and adults who want companionship.

Zoe loves to play both with her brother Zeke and with her foster parents! If you have a feather toy or string you will have both of their attention! Zoe has also been enjoying the physical and mental challenge of learning tricks like sit, (jump) up, down, over, etc. When not playing, Zoe especially enjoys spending time on a plush cat bed in front of the window where she likes to be pet, watch birds and take long naps. Once she had time to settle in, she now enjoys joining her foster parents on the couch for TV time and snuggling against their legs at night. When not frolicking about the house, Zeke enjoys chilling on the top of his cat tree and is often found lounging with his legs stretched way out in front of him. She has thick black fur and is about 6 pounds.

Preach is a dashing black cat with a single white square on his chest which makes him look like a priest, thus the name Preach. He has beautiful golden yellow eyes.

Preach is loving and playful like his best friend Boo. It takes him a little longer to warm up and get comfortable with his environment. Once he settles in, Preach likes petting and napping in the sun. He loves toys that jingle and will always come running. He also really likes chasing laser beams.

Boo is a sleek, classic black kitten with a few white hairs on his chest and a tiny white patch on his tummy. He has glorious yellow eyes that make him look like a tiny panther.

You will not find a sweeter kitty than Boo! He wants to cuddle with everyone he meets and is constantly purring. He loves attention and even prefers petting over food. Boo is gentle and playful, and would be a great addition to any family. He loves chasing his best buddy Preach.

Graybie is a relatively slender grey and white cat with soft fur and a generally agile build.

Graybie is a total sweetheart. He loves to sit on your lap or otherwise cuddle near you when you sit down or nap. He spends most of the day napping or following you around but gets a little more energetic around 10pm. He loves food, especially wet food, and gets very curious and excited at the smell of dairy and will want to jump up onto the kitchen counter to investigate. However, he is used to not being allowed to eat that food and will not complain too much when you pick him up and move him away. He loves to be pet, loves company, and generally is a wonderful cat to be around.

He lived outside for a while but is very content as an inside cat.

Teacup has golden eyes and a beautiful marbled tabby coat with a white chest and white socks on her four paws.

Curious little Teacup would love to be your best friend! This clever kitty likes to keep an eye on what you are up to around the house and makes a lovely little companion for household chores. To get a better look, she'd sometimes put her paws up to ask for a ride on your shoulder! She loves her treats and is always trying to figure out whether that plate you’re carrying has something for her.

Teacup is a very friendly and brave kitten who is not at all intimidated by new people or places. She is also very patient with her younger foster brother and wrestling buddy Coffee (read more about him in the “Best Friends” link). Teacup and Coffee would make a great pair to be adopted together!

Coffee has a beautiful shiny black coat with tiny tufts of white on his neck and lower tummy. He has sleek long legs and loving golden eyes.

Coffee is the sweetest little cuddle-bug! He makes friends with other cats and humans quickly and is never happier than when he's purring on a warm lap. Coffee will talk to you with cute little noises and plop down on his side for pets. He's a tad nervous in new environments but comes out for cuddles very easily with a little time and coaxing.

When playtime comes around Coffee is the fastest kitten in the room! He loves wrestling and chasing his foster sister Teacup (read more about her in the "Best Friends" section link). Coffee and Teacup would make a great pair to be adopted together!

Coffee was found at a Bojangles location in Pittsboro. His ear was clipped when he was trapped but he quickly showed the people who found him that he was way too friendly for the streets!

Mellie is a very attractive small hound mix with a white, brown and black coat. Watch her video of Mellie's gay abandon while playing with her doggie friend.

Mellie can be very anxious at times. In her foster home she enjoys being with us, sleeping on the couch and spending time in the yard. But she is shy of visitors and is sometimes too timid to come back indoors if she feels new people have been in the house. We haven't managed to get her to walk on the leash and would not adopt her to anyone who wants a dog who must. She will require a home with a very secure fenced yard - at least 6 feet, wooden privacy preferred, which touches the ground. She is frightened if she is not in the yard or the house so trips to the park or walks are not for her. She needs to go to someone who will love her as she is even though we do of course hope that she will continue her very gradual confidence building.

Mellie likes the cats and tries to play with them but resigns herself to the fact they may only want to curl up with her - lazy old things that they are!

Mellie was found as a stray with her puppies in someone's backyard. She had been seen running around the neighborhood and was thought to be abandoned.

Usagi is an adorable stocky little mix—mostly white, with large brown patches and some small, dark polka dots. She is short and muscular with adorable chunky paws. Her big bunny ears usually stand straight up, but sometimes her right ear flops over. Usagi has stunningly gorgeous blue and gold eyes, and a mottled pink and brown nose.

With her foster family, Usagi is an extremely affectionate little hunk of love. A master of snuggles, she will happily either lie on top of her humans, sprawl out next to them, curl up in the curve of their legs, or smoosh in-between them; big spoon, little spoon—she loves it all. One of her most favorite activities is belly rubs. She will flop onto her back, with paws dangling, and extort all the belly rubs she can. She loves her toys and all food.

Usagi loves to chase a ball, and can run faster and jump higher/farther than most, which would make her great for any type of agility games and training. She occasionally gets the most adorable zoomies and will race in circles, grab a toy, and buck like a little bronco. She is sooooo endearing and provides endless entertainment.

Usagi is very smart and eager to please. She has learned Sit, Down, Stay, Up, Roll over, Spin, Lay on your side, Go to your mat, Wait/Hold (for food or when doors open), Leave it, Come, Kennel up (Go to crate), and a few others! Here’s one of the tricks she now knows: she can lie down, with treats lined up on her legs and muzzle, and then, when given the “Okay” cue, she will gobble them up! Usagi generally walks beautifully on a leash. She is a quick study and would likely be happy to learn any trick requested.

These are just some examples of Usagi’s amazing qualities and lovable personality. She is, however, very fearful of new things including dogs and people. She has made progress, but in her forever home Usagi will need a patient pet parent/family who will continue to work with her slowly while she builds confidence.

Usagi currently lives with a dog and a cat, but as she has not met most other animals well, she will need to be the only animal in her new home. Her very rambunctious playstyle and bullish affection would also likely overwhelm small children. Usagi is getting braver but still needs very slow introductions to new humans. So, she would not do well in a house with lots of visitors or with people who travel a lot.

Usagi completely melts her foster humans with her sweet, affectionate gaze, the press of one of her meaty little paws, or the smooshing of her blocky head against their cheeks. She will bring boundless love, affection, and laughs to her forever home, and needs loving, caring people to help her feel safe.

Ketch is black, white, and tan with floppy ears, and white under her chin and down the front of her neck. Although she has no tail, she wags her little stump.

A smart, strong-willed dog, Ketch needs a job to do. Obedience, agility or nosework training would be best. Alternatively, she can be someone’s running partner (she is very athletic). She does require plenty of exercise, both physical (walks, running, agility) and mental (obedience and trick training, impulse control training). Ketch is highly motivated by food and loves to play with toys, which makes training easier. She can, however, be very stubborn at times, so training her requires some effort. We are currently working on basic obedience training with her (Ketch is a jumper and a very strong puller) and impulse control. We are looking for an experienced dog owner who enjoys dog training and is not intimidated by a challenge.

Ketch loves people, but her high energy level makes her unsuitable for families with young children. Ketch has been introduced to other dogs, but she is, unfortunately, not good with them. She will only be adopted to experienced dog owners that currently do not have any other dogs (and do not plan to add new dogs to their family in the future). She cannot be trusted with cats or other small animals, either. Ketch is currently undergoing behavior modification training, which will hopefully make her reactivity to other dogs less prominent. However, we will still only adopt her to single-dog homes.

Ketch is fully crate- and house-trained. She still has a tendency to chew on inappropriate objects, but providing enough exercise and appropriate chewing items is enough to alleviate this problem. Ketch is healthy, full of energy, and waiting for a patient human who is willing to invest time and energy in her training to help her reach her full potential.

Ketch was found as a stray and spent several months at a local shelter. While at the shelter, the volunteers spent time working with her, teaching her some basic skills, socializing her in playgroups, and even teaching her to navigate a couple of agility obstacles.

Boe Boe is a gorgeous white fluffy dog, with tan ears--so soft!

Boe Boe is a sweet, laid back, lovable teddy bear who thinks he is a lap dog! A gentle giant, he needs a large detached home with a very large, secure fenced yard, and will do best with no other pets because he likes all the attention! As a typical Pyrenees, he would rather be outside most of the time, and with his heavy coat, wintertime is his best time. Boe is house-trained, enjoys car rides, and walks well on a leash. He likes being close with his family; and if there are children, due to his size, is appropriate only for older kids.

Tate has a beautiful reddish coat with touches of white and a sleek, compact build.

Tate is a very sweet, affectionate boy. He loves to be with people all the time and sneak in a lick to your face when he can! He also adores other dogs and needs a home with another canine companion to play with, to help reinforce his confidence, and to take cues about what is right. Tate also needs a fenced yard (he loves running around!).

He is very smart and learns very quickly. He takes enormous pleasure in his toys, Kongs, and chews. Crate- and house-trained, Tate sleeps through the night and never touches household belongings.

Initially sky and skittish, Tate needed some time to learn to trust—but his love for contact and cuddles with people helped him overcome his fears!

Little Lexie has beautiful shiny black coat with splashes of tan, and has the cutest underbite.

Little Lexie likes to be the center of attention, so she could be fine as an only dog as long as someone is home a lot during the day. She would do best with a fenced-in yard. Lexie enjoys the company of another dog. She loves to snuggle on the couch with her foster mom. She would be fine with older children, say 10 and up.

Lexie entertains herself with her stuffed toys, and loves going on walks and watching TV! When an animal is on the TV, Lexie becomes absolutely mesmerized! She is pee-pad–trained and crate-trained, and often can be found in her crate, just chilling.

She is responding well to commands, and we are working on Sit, Stay, Wait, and Leave it.

Tobias (Toby) is gray with spots of white on his back, chest, and feet. He has one ear that stands up and one cute, floppy ear.

Toby is sweet, silly, and loving. This world where he is a friend to humans is new to him, and he is just learning how to receive affection. Don't get me wrong, though: Toby loves people and has a sweet, sweet temperament. Because of Toby's past, he has guarding issues with other dogs; so he needs to be the only dog in the house. But he does like other dogs and is not reactive toward them.

To get attention from people, he nuzzles and rests his head on their lap or arm. Toby tends to nibble gently on hands, but is starting to learn to do so less. He likes to be near people, but will also settle on his comfy bed in a separate room. Toby is doing well with house-training. He is quiet in the crate and sometimes sits in there during the day with the door open. He knows Sit, Wait and Come.

Toby is a medium-energy guy. He loves to play fetch, but be prepared to have two balls—since he will give one up only when another is in play! He is a great passenger in the car and likes to go on adventures. Toby also likes going on walks and is doing well with learning leash manners. He is easily redirected from anything that grabs his focus using the Watch me command and a treat .

Sir Tucker has an athletic build, a gorgeous speckled face, warm eyes, and a curly tail. He is mostly black with tan markings on his face, legs, and paws, and white markings on his back and stomach.

Sir Tucker has won over so many hearts with his goofy smile and loving personality. He can be slow to warm up to new people; but once he does, there's no turning back! Tucker loves to be with his people and also does fine when by himself.

He has some insecurities that his adopter will need to be aware of to keep him safe. Tucker is afraid of loud outside noises, such as car doors closing and big trucks driving by. For this reason, he needs a standalone home, rather than an apartment/condo/town home, where there would be more activity in close proximity. Tucker is house-trained and crate-trained, and goes into his crate on his own as his safe space when he gets scared.

His new home should have EITHER a fenced yard and/or another dog of a similar energy for him to play with. Tucker is a medium-energy dog, who loves running in his foster's backyard and playing with his foster sister. He previously lived with cats, so he would love some fur companions in his new home. Although we think Tucker would like young kids, due to his size and energy, any kids in the adoption home need to be 10 or older.

Tucker loves belly rubs, lying at his human's feet, American cheese treats, and praise. He knows basic commands such as Sit and Lie down, and Go in your crate, and he is learning Wait. He walks well on a leash with a harness. Tucker loves to play, but he also is content snuggling up and getting attention that way!

Tucker needs a dedicated, loving owner, committed to following a routine and giving him the time he needs to adjust to a new home.

Suki is a gorgeous white dog with black spots and big, sweet brown eyes. Her coat is soft and silky.

Suki is a gentle, low-energy sweetheart who loves leisurely walks and relaxing. She is quite independent, no-nonsense, and spends the majority of her days resting and napping. Because of partial hearing loss, she has a loud Woof, so she would do best in a free-standing house rather than an apartment or a condo.

She is completely house-trained and can be left unsupervised and uncrated with no issues. Suki has been the only pet in her foster home, so her ability to live with other dogs, cats, or young children is unknown. However, on our daily walks around the neighborhood, she is great when meeting friendly dogs, and has a neighborhood kitty friend who walks up to her and flops on his back while she sniffs and nuzzles him. She is especially easy and calm when meeting other humans, and particularly loves kids.

During doggy playdates, Suki wears out fairly easily and has trouble settling with another dog around. She would do well as an only dog, but may be able to live with a friendly canine companion. Suki sometimes barks to communicate with her people that she wants food or to go for a walk.

Most details of her history are unknown, but it is clear that she has had multiple litters of puppies. In just a few short months, Suki has transformed from timid and depressed to happy and bright-eyed. This strong and gentle girl now wags her tail, gives kisses, and loves belly rubs.

Sadie Grove is black and white with short fur.

Sadie Grove is a sweet and affectionate pooch who warmed right up to us! She has the biggest smile and loves to greet you with wiggles and wags. Check out Sadie's video and you will likely fall in love like we have!

Sadie is crate- and house-trained; and she knows several commands including Sit, Lie down, Stay, Go crate, Paw and Away. She loves belly rubs and will ask for them by flopping over onto her back. She will also put her paw up to ask for pets but understands if it's not time for pets and will give you space. Sadie enjoys playing fetch and brings the ball back (sometimes) 🙂

She needs an owner who will stick to a training routine to continue to improve her leash reactivity and occasional anxiety in new situations (she has come so far in her training!). She would benefit from a fenced-in yard for exercise, but it isn't a must. She can go on walks during calmer times of day and spaces, but she still gets excited and pulls when she sees dogs and cats. Sadie is very smart and food motivated, and she will work her hardest to please you.

I have a gorgeous black coat with a white stripe down my face, spilling onto my chin, around my neck, on my chest, and onto my toes.

My name is Chanel, and I know I am adorable—just look at my sweet face! Plus I am very lovable, loyal, and enjoy the company of humans and male dogs. I would like a fenced yard; but it is not a requirement in my forever home. Even though I have improved on my leash manners, I still need a strong adult human to take me on my walks who is experienced with walking large, strong dogs.

My foster mom has been training me on basic commands; but sometimes I don’t hear that well. So it may take a couple of times to respond. I am crate-trained and like to have bones and chews to occupy my time. I don’t have accidents in the house and know better not to jump on furniture! Sometimes when I get really excited, I jump when greeting people and when I’m getting fed. So I can be in a home with older children, but not young ones.

I don’t think anyone ever gave me toys before coming into IAR, so I don’t know how to play with them. I spend most of my days napping, dreaming of food, playing, running, and not taking a bath. My favorite food is spaghetti and meatballs. Don’t get me wrong, I also eat up all my veggies!

Star is a handsome brown and tan puppy with striking green eyes.

Star is a cuddly, playful, and a little bit mischievous young boy. He is expected to be about 50 pounds at maturity.

Given Star's high energy level, we are looking for an active, energetic family, ideally with several in the household. He needs a large fenced yard to get his zoomies out, along with walks several times a day and a run at least once a day. Star adores and is great with our 15-year-old son! So we are looking for a home with older children. Because of his anticipated weight when he is full grown and current puppy behaviors, we are saying no to a home with younger children.

Star loves snuggling on the couch at night and adores belly rubs and neck scratches, often grinning the whole time!

He also requires a routine schedule and consistent training. Star has typical puppy mouthy behaviors, which can be redirected to his toys. We are working on preventing him from jumping up during play.

Star is house- and crate-trained, and sleeps through the night. He is friendly and tail-waggy with people and other dogs. He has not lived with other dogs, but does well at dog day camp. However, he shows prey-drive for birds, cats and is not for homes with smaller dogs.

Star is a happy and cooperative fellow. He loves to play tug-of-war and fetch. Star scent tracks, really enjoys being outside walking, and is learning not to pull on-leash. He is ready to be your outdoor partner! He likes riding in the car, too. Star would likely do well with agility training and definitely with scent training. He has some Husky tendencies to hop up on furniture. He is thriving in puppy obedience training with Cheery Dogs. He is very treat-motivated, and knows Sit and is learning Come and Down.

Miss Sweet Pea has short espresso-colored fur with a large white splash on her chest. Her coat is sleek and soft.

Miss Sweet Pea is a grand, regal beauty! Playful and energetic, she is as sweet as her name suggests! Sweet Pea makes friends with everyone she meets. And if you sit on the ground with her, she will try to climb into your lap.

Sweet Pea is big and strong, and because she is still not sure what is expected of her, she’ll need someone who can handle a large dog and give her guidance. As she sometimes doesn't know her own strength when she plays, she needs a home with no small children or cats. She has loved being the center of attention as the only dog in her foster home; so we don't know whether she would like to live with a dog companion.

Sweet Pea is also smart and wants to please. She is potty-trained and crate-trained, and has quickly picked up basic commands like Come, Sit, and Wait, is working on Leave it, and needs a friend who will teach her more. She is also working on leash manners. Her hobbies include playing tug of war, chasing squirrels, and sniffing out hidden treats. Sweet Pea loves exploring in the woods and would be a great dog for someone who likes to go for hikes.

Mocha Latte has a fawn-like frame—a little guy with long legs and adorable face markings. His beautiful coat is mostly black and brown, with a smattering of white here and there.

Mocha Latte is very playful, athletic, and extremely food motivated. He loves to wrestle with his squeaker toys. Mocha is fully house-trained, but because he has such a small bladder, he needs a potty break about once every 4-5 hours when he is awake.

Mocha can be quite anxious which leads to him being very afraid of strangers and other dogs. Out of fear, Mocha can be vocal with strangers to try to keep them away. His new family will need to be very patient with him to help him feel safe, and to understand that strangers aren’t a danger to him or his family. Mocha is already receiving training to help him be more confident around strangers. When he takes naps, he needs to be woken up gently so that he's not startled. He needs to live in a standalone home in a quiet neighborhood (no apartments will be considered). As he is not at all good with children, he cannot be in a home where there are children or children visiting.

Once Mocha warms up, he always wants to be by his person’s side. His favorite place to nap or chew on a bone is in his bed when his foster parents are in the same room. Mocha knows the commands Sit, Stay, Crate, and Down (from furniture). He is crate-trained and sleeps well through the night in his crate. A very good walker as long as there aren’t too many people around, he loves to stop and sniff everything when he is out on a long walk. Mocha is looking to live a long, healthy, active life in his loving forever home!

Precious Luna rocks a super-silky tan and white coat, a black nose, black eyes, and an adorable underbite.

Precious Luna is as endearing as her name, and her puppy eyes will melt your heart! This sweet girl had a hard first go at life. But she’s ready to continue to be loved and shown what the good-dog life can be!

Precious needs a calm household, without very young children. She would be great with an individual, couple, or small family who has experience with dogs and who would be willing to go at her pace while she learns about her new people and new environment. Precious Luna is curious and playful with her foster parents now, and will show you her goofy and endearing personality once she gets to know you! When meeting other dogs, Precious is neutral-to-indifferent. However, she may eventually benefit from having a doggy companion who can show her the ropes and teach her how to have fun!

She is good on a leash and does not pull much; sometimes she gets overstimulated when there are lots of cars/dogs/people around, and she will lie down on the ground. Precious is working with a trainer on leash walking in stimulating environments and has been very successful as she learns about the world.

Precious occasionally plays with her foster parents and likes to explore around the fenced yard, although she’s still learning what playing is. More often, Precious prefers to sleep during the day next to her foster dad’s desk.

Precious is very independent, and when left alone at home she typically just sleeps. She is house-trained, although she has occasional slipups. Her foster parents have not tried to crate train her. She knows basic commands (Sit and Down) and is very treat-motivated to learn more! Precious does not love being around large groups of people but will happily retreat to one of her safe spaces (like her crate) away from commotion and sleep if you're having friends or family over.

Precious had very little interaction with humans before coming into IAR, and is still getting used to physical affection. However her progress since coming into IAR nearly four months ago, specifically her receptiveness to affection, and her seamless transition to indoor dog life, is nothing short of phenomenal!

Although she is still coming out of her shell, every vet, dog trainer, and IAR volunteer who has met Precious has fallen in love with her!

Mister Mosey is black with brown eyes, a little bit of gray on his snout, and floppy ears.

If you are looking for your first canine companion: your search has ended. Mister Mosey would be a great fit for a first time dog parent. He is a total sweetheart! A touch reserved and cautious at first, once he gets to know you, he is a shadow—keeping an eye on what you're doing and where you're going. When you are his person, you are his PERSON.

Mister Mosey is a dream to walk on the leash. He adores taking his time to (literally) mosey along on a sniffy walk, and other times he’s happy to trot alongside you—tail wags and all. Mister Mosey is not reactive to small creatures (such as squirrels, rabbits, cats) and even ignores barking dogs in yards while on walks. He is a social creature, and can be eager to make new friends. New intros are best taken slowly, with a keen eye on both dogs to see how it goes. More often than not, Mister Mosey has made a new friend.

When you're ready to relax, he is right there with you and is happiest when a part of his body (or most of it . . .) is touching yours. Mister Mosey's foster mom works from home, and he is a great companion in the home office—settling down with a chew toy or taking a nap, and very happy for a lunchtime spin. His soft (and sometimes less soft) snores are a treat, and they help you forget about any troubles of the day.

Mister Mosey is house-trained. He is not crate-trained; but given his age, that shouldn't be insisted on. He doesn't bother anything in the home when left to his own devices. Although his signals to be let out aren’t the clearest, a consistent schedule of outdoor time has been successful for him. Mister Mosey is also a fan of sleeping in, and enjoys being tucked in for the night, and will let you get a solid 8+ hours in. He loves food and treats, so is highly treat-motivated. (No known allergies, and LOVES to eat anything he is offered.)

Mister Mosey adores playtime romping with canine companions, but should be the only dog in the household. He has cohabitated with cats and generally pays them no mind. For potential adopters with cats, please note that our decompression protocol is so important, and will help set everyone in the family up for success!

Mister Mosey's ideal new parent would be someone who is around a lot of the day. As he does (minimum) barking inside the home, he would be better suited to a detached home (rather than an apartment/condo/townhome). He would adore a home with a fenced yard. (He is precious to watch exploring.)

He is 100% up for adventures, and is happiest when with his people. If you are looking for a faithful companion to move through life with, look no further!

Mister Mosey's first owner adored him, but had to give him up when they moved into an assisted living facility. His most recent owner loves him, but because of their declining health, and need of a service dog (that Mister Mosey's age and disposition didn’t make him a good candidate,) they made the difficult decision to let Mister Mosey find a new forever home that will better fit his needs. He is a well loved pup, with many fans around Durham.

Little Eno has short black/brown fur all over her head and the rest of her body is black and white. She still has a bit of growing to do.

Little Eno is a very sweet, affectionate, energetic, and curious puppy.
Eno loves to prance around the house and yard. She absolutely adores her toys—the squeakier, the better! She especially loves to play tug-of-war and fetch. She will fetch anything - indoors or outdoors all day long! She is very responsive to training and really enjoys learning new things and knows basic commands. Eno may be a little shy at first, and will need a slow introduction before she can warm up.

Given her energy level, she needs an active household. A fenced yard would be nice so she can run around and explore. As Eno can get a little too excited during play and be jumpy, we are not accepting applicants with children. She needs a household of adults who have had a pup before, so they understand how important routine and training are, and are willing to continue to put in the time and effort that she needs.

She is crate-trained and sleeps in the crate through the night without a peep. She is good on leash. She is making great progress in potty training - right now she goes out every 3-4 hrs during the day and doesn't need to be let out at night. She will need her forever family to continue with her training.

Hayden is a very handsome black and white boy. He has the cutest spotted pink nose and beautiful big brown eyes.

Hayden is a happy boy who makes friends with everyone he meets. To him, there's no such thing as a stranger! He loves being petted and will sit or flop onto his back for belly rubs. He also enjoys playing with a ball or his bone, alone or with his person.

Hayden has been the only pet in his foster home—so his ability to live with other dogs, cats, or young children is unknown. However, given his desire to chase birds and excitement for people, he would likely do best in a home without cats or small children.

Hayden is house-trained and is learning how to be crate-trained. He is very food motivated, which helps with training. Already, he is excellent at Sit and is learning Come and Down. Hayden walks okay on a leash, but does get very excited when he sees other dogs. He needs a family that will continue his training.

Jax Jr. is mostly white with assorted splashes of brown.

We are loving fostering Jax Jr.! He is a sweet, playful, goofy, and smart boy. Jax loves doing zoomies in the backyard, scratches on the belly, and enjoying all the new experiences (although sometimes they can be scary). He would fit best with someone who has a fenced-in backyard, as he enjoys nothing more than sniffing the perimeter and running around; but it is not a requirement.

We have had him for only a few weeks, and are working on walking on a leash and not pulling. He has learned the basic commands pretty quickly. We are still working on house-manners. Jax was not housebroken when he came to us; but he has done remarkably well in the short time we have had him. He understands that outside is for potty breaks, inside is not. Sometimes there is a slipup because he does not know how to signal to go outside quite yet. He has a protector sense and will bark when someone comes on the property; but it is short-lived and not excessive. Jax is a big boy and is not aware of his size. For the most part, he won’t jump, although he does get excited and sometimes forgets.

He loves his blankets and his stuffed elephant. Jax needs an owner that will show him new things, give him attention and love, and work with him to get him to reach his potential.

Jax gets along with dogs and on walks doesn't seem to show them too much attention. He does great with my dog. He definitely seems to have a connection with dogs; so even if you don’t have one of your own, providing Jax with opportunities to play with other dogs would make him very happy.

He has not spent time with any children. However, because he has no sense of personal space and his size, I think he would be fine only for older children.

Jax does not like the crate, so as he is an older dog, we do not push it: We leave him in a room gated off when we are gone, and he has done fine without bothering any household belongings.

Jax is a gentle giant and will make a wonderful pet. He adores being active as much as he adores lounging. And with more training, he is going to be as obedient as he is loving.

Jon Snow is a handsome boy with a white soft coat and frosted dark brown spots on his back. He has a brindled mark encircling one eye and ears that stand straight up.

If what you think about the name Jon Snow is only from Game of Thrones—You know nothing, Jon Snow—you will be delighted by this great boy who knows so much!

Snow is such a smart and affectionate boy, who happens to be deaf. But you may not even notice that. He will light up your day with his big smile and unconditional love. His bright eyes and soulful facial expressions show you how much he loves you.

As he needs some time to adjust, we are looking for an adopter who at least for the first several weeks can be home most of the time. Snow is house-trained and is willing to go in his crate at night, but does not need to be crated during the day, although sometimes he goes in himself with the door open. He can be trusted not to chew household belongings.

A fenced yard would be a plus; but he currently gets most of his exercise by leashed walks. Snow is the only dog in his foster family, but he is friendly to polite dogs. Because of his size and the fact he cannot hear, he should be around children only if they are over 6 years old. Just give him a bit of time and patience, and he will fit in your daily routines quickly.

He knows some hand signals and would love to learn more. His foster family didn’t have experience in handling a dog with a hearing problem before; but they learned several tricks and are happy to share them with his new family. Other IAR fosters who do have extensive experience with deaf dogs can help as well.

His tail always wags when you look at him, telling you, I‘m ready to kiss you and show how much I love you! He will use his paw and facial expressions to tell you, Oh, belly rubs—this is awesome, more, please!

Snow is sweet and friendly to people, and, if invited, will generously give lots of kisses and hugs. He is eager to please and gives you lots of eye contact—both great components for training. He already knows Sit, Shake, and Down.

Snow is relatively low energy and relaxed at home. He enjoys taking naps near his human, or playing with his chew toys when his people are working. Snow can always find a spot near you upon invite.

It is pleasant to take him for a walk. He will sit and wag his tail to let you put on his harness and leash; and most of the time, he walks with a loose leash and will adjust his pace to walk by your side. Even if a squirrel or a goose draws his attention occasionally, it is easy to redirect him.

Snow also enjoys car rides and hiking trips. He is excited at first but calms down in just minutes.

The TV character Jon Snow wasn't born with noble blood but earned his fame, and received and gave love. I wish this name will bring fortune to our lovely Jon Snow, who has been challenged by his deafness, but is so very strong and sweet and loving.

Jon Snow is ready to commit his loyalty and love to his forever family. Will you be the lucky one to give him a loving and caring home?

Max Boy is a big, soft handsome guy. He has medium-length fur that is mostly tan, with some white here and there. He has a long snout and a black nose. Max has curious brown eyes and ears that are a little darker than the rest of him. His tail has a bit of black on it and a little curl. He has a tall, athletic build. He's a gorgeous dog.

Max Boy always has a friendly, happy-to-meet-you expression on his face. A young, energetic dog who loves outdoor adventures, he is good on the leash and likes to ride in the car. He'll go with you anywhere!

Max is still learning boundaries in the house, but is completely house-trained and likes his crate. He knows some basic commands and needs someone who will continue to work with him on those. He is big and strong, and because he still is not sure what is expected of him, he’ll need someone who can handle a large dog.

Max is really smart and wants to please. He is easily redirected with a treat or a toy. He doesn’t seem to have any issues with anxiety or reactivity. And he likes other dogs!!

Max bonds quickly and enjoys the company of his humans. He is sweet and good-natured. Max will be your best friend!

Ms. Melba has a short black coat, a splash of white on her chest, and patches of brown and gray all over her belly and face.

Ms. Melba is a gentle and affectionate dog who appreciates her space. If you’re willing and she’s in the mood, she will eagerly walk and sit next to you, or cuddle up in your lap.

She enjoys the company of adults, but as she gets too excited during play with humans, she cannot live with children or be in a home where children visit, or live with cats.

Melba loves to be petted behind her ears and the sides of her face. When she is very comfortable with you, she likes to return the affection by giving kisses. When describing Ms. Melba's personality, we like to say she chills hard and plays hard.

Two of her favorite things are playing with her toys and looking out windows to people watch. She is crate-trained and house-trained, and understands the difference between her toys and our belongings. In her downtime, you can catch her relaxing, sleeping on some blankets (she loves a soft blanket), or playing with a chew toy. She also likes to play fetch! Melba responds well to commands, and knows Sit, Stay, and Lie down.

Abbie Lou has short- to medium-length soft and silky tan fur that is lighter and darker in different places. Her eyes are a beautiful golden amber.

Abbie Lou is a playful, energetic young dog who is very interested in humans, although a bit shy at first. She will follow you throughout the house and fenced yard wanting to know exactly what you are doing because everything is brand-new to her. Abbie REALLY enjoys other dogs and would make a great companion for another dog. Her adorable ears can be in all sorts of positions and totally reflect how she is feeling in the moment!

Abbie is house-trained and crate-trained. She is a good learner and has done well in the home with correction when necessary. We hope to begin agility training and feel she will do well!
