6 year old • Male • 50 lbs
Rickie has a shiny black coat with tan socks and golden eyes.
Rickie is a wonderful dog! Once Rickie gets used to his environment, he loves to play. He does especially well with the other dogs in his foster home and comes up to his foster mom to beg for treats. Rickie would do well in a family with kids, dogs, and cats. Rickie is new to leash walking, so he would appreciate a fenced-in yard.

Rickie is up-to-date on vaccinations. He tested positive for heartworm, and is being treated with a slow protocol that begins with 28 days of doxcycline and Heartgard twice during the first month, followed by twice-a-month Heartgard. This method gradually clears the heartworm infection without the need for excessive confinement. Most dogs will test negative for heartworm within a year using this method.
Rickie came to IAR with his brother, Bobbie, from a rural shelter.
IAR subsidizes post-adoption professional training with Jane Marshall (www.cheerydogs.com) to encourage a life-long and successful bond between the dog and the adopter. Group classes for puppies and adult dogs are provided at a substantial discount to IAR adopters.
