PHYSICAL
Lilo Grace is mostly white with black spots (on the inside of her ears, her Groucho eyebrows, over her left eye, and around her muzzle) and assorted splashes of pink. She has a barrel chest and big head.

PROFILE
Lilo Grace is the sweetest girl you will ever meet and is a big goof! She is so gentle and loves to be around people. She does a happy-feet dance when you walk in the room! Recently, Lilo met a toddler and she gently went up to him and nuzzled him, and then immediately turned over on her back for belly rubs! If it was up to her, she would be with her people all the time, although she doesn't have any separation anxiety. Lilo does not want to be in a crate, so we closed off an area with a baby gate, and she is very happy in there and doesn't bother any belongings.

She LOVES other dogs and loves to play. In her foster home she is living with a male pit mix and a female Shepherd/Bassett/Corgi mix, and they all get along great. Lilo has mastered "Sit" and is working on other basic commands, and her leash walking is coming along.

HEALTH
Lilo Grace is up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, and spayed. She has clearly had puppies. Lilo tested positive for heartworms and is receiving a gentle protocol to gradually eliminate the heartworms: it starts with 28 days of doxycycline along with heartworm preventative (ivermectin--Heartgard, Iverheart, or Tri-Heart) twice that month, continuing with the preventative twice a month for a year.

With the gentle protocol, no excessive confinement is required. Dogs should not be out in the heat for long periods of time, and should not engage in heavy exercise until they test negative for heartworms. Heavy exercise that should be avoided includes full-speed running for any distance, jogging more than a short distance such as one block, repetitive ball chasing, and high-energy play with other dogs. Leash walking is fine in most cases, as long as they do not get winded and it is not too hot.

Most dogs will test negative for heartworms within a year using this method. Lilo began the gentle protocol in August 2021, so she should test negative by September 2022.

HISTORY
Lilo Grace was found as a stray and taken to a rural county shelter.
