Duke has great tabby markings, with nice dabs of stripes and spots. He has beautiful blue-green eyes and an adorable, inquisitive face!
Not named for our local university. Not named after John Wayne. Duke is his very own cat and descended from royalty, thank you very much! His feral mother, "Queen", had a litter of kittens somewhere near our house, and we gradually befriended some of them. Brother "Prince" has already been befriended, fostered through IAR, and adopted! Sister "Contessa" will probably always be wild, and she likes to stay out of the public eye. "Duke" is somewhere in between - he's a very friendly guy, and he's liking living indoors with humans, but there is still some new stuff for him to understand and get used to. He has learned to use the litter box, but he still doesn't like to be picked up, and he's very gradually getting used to having his nails clipped.
Duke gets along great with another foster cat, Pippin, and it is so fun to watch the two of them wrestle and play all day. They also eat together and nap together. He's tolerant of our dog, but he is nervous about our child. Duke has never so much as hissed or even partially swiped at our child, instead preferring to just keep his distance.
If we sit quietly, Duke will come over for pets and scritches and climb into our laps. He purrs nicely and will really settle in for some nice cuddling. But he's also a bit skittish (especially shy with new people), and sudden movements can startle him.
But with time and patience, Duke is becoming a trusting and affectionate cat, and he would do especially well in a home where he can play with his best buddy Pippin, who is also available for adoption via IAR!

Click here for more photos of Duke!
Duke was gradually befriended after being born somewhere around our house!
