All About Me

Ernest (Ernie for short) is a beautiful orange and white tabby kitten. He is a gorgeous boy with soft eyes that have the longest eyelashes you've ever seen on a cat.

Meet the Hemingway Boys! Ernest, Jack, Gregory, and Patrick are 4 brothers who have a distinguished heritage... 3 of them are polydactyl cats. Unlike normal felines who have five front toes and four back toes, polydactyl cats have anywhere from four to seven toes per paw. The most common polydactyl cats have extra toes only on their front paws; it is rare for a cat to have polydactyl hind paws only; but the most uncommon of all is to be polydactyl on all four. Ernest, Gregory, and Patrick fit into this last category and have 6 toes on their front paws and 5 on their back. It looks as if they are wearing mittens because they appear to have a thumb on their paws.
Many people know about polydactyl cats because of their association with the Ernest Hemingway family. According to history, Mr. Hemingway was given a 6 toed cat by a ship's captain and from there sprang a long lineage of polydactyl felines which continue today as part of the Hemingway House and Museum in Key West, Florida. In Mr. Hemingway's day, he had the practice of naming his polydactyl cats after famous people. So in keeping with this tradition, it was decided that the 4 brothers must have the names of Ernest himself and his 3 sons – Jack, Gregory, and Patrick, who were all famous in their own right. All 4 furry boys are extremely loving and friendly kittens, as they were handled and cared for since they were just days old. Now they are wonderfully socialized little boys who are eager for attention and run to anyone who comes into their path for treats and cuddles.
Although brothers, they each have their own distinct personality. Ernest or Ernie is a gorgeous boy with soft eyes that have the longest eyelashes you've ever seen on a cat. His polydactyl features are the most prominent of the brothers due to his orange/white tabby coloration. Ernest proudly uses his huge front mitts to his advantage by batting balls around the house or catching play mice in the air just like a baseball outfielder. He loves to join in the mix with his brothers but also has a calm demeanor like his brother Jack. In fact, Ernest and Jack have asked to be adopted together as they make the perfect pair. The Hemingway brothers will make a wonderful addition to any loving family. Will you be theirs?
