Physical Description: Sam is a handsome lab mix with black fur with tinges of auburn along his chest and below, and spotted paws. He has the most lovable smile!

Personality: Samwise (aka Sammy) is a total sweetheart who simply wants to love and be loved. Sammy is playful and energetic, and enjoys playing inside with toys, or outside taking long walks or running about with a doggy friend, but is happy to play with his human friends too. When it comes to settling down, he's as lovey-dovey as can be. He loves cuddling up with you on the couch and making friends with the other animals in the house, including dogs and cats.

He's completely house broken, crate-trained, rides well in the car, and is very respectful of your things! At night, Sammy sleeps in his crate through the night and enjoys sleeping in, so he'll only wake up once he hears you moving around. He also does well in his crate during the day. We have only left him at uncrated home alone for 20-30 minute spans, but we come back with everything in its place.

While untrained at the time of his rescue, he learned commands such as "sit" and "lay down" and his new name in the course of a morning. He is treat-motivated. He's a truly wonderful pup who was saved in the nick of time, who deserving a fun-loving, wonderful home!

History: Sammy was rescued from a local animal shelter hours before being put down. It's not clear how he ended up at the shelter, but when he entered IAR he was very thin and showed signs of possible abuse and/or neglect, as early on, he hid his head in your lap and flinched if you pet him. But since then, he's come out of his shell and loves cuddles, car rides, and toys.
