Physical Description: Fred is black and white. He's tall and lean, and at a very good weight. Fred is an amputee, and is missing his back left leg.
Personality: Fred is always happy. He's very active and enjoys playing. He's also smart and eager to please. Fred is trusting and transitioned to his new foster home very quickly.
He loves to play with his foster brothers, but will play alone if no one wants to play with him. He enjoys chewing his toys. What Fred loves best, though, is to sit in your lap and nap.
History: Fred was taken to the vet when he was found at 4 months old with an injured leg. His leg could not be saved, and after removal of it, he went home with one of the vet techs who had been caring for him. She realized Fred is a very special dog. She reached out to IAR for help in finding him his forever home. He is now happily living in a foster home with three other dogs ranging in weight from 15 to 85 pounds.
Good with Dogs: Yes
Good with Cats: Unknown
Good with Young Kids: Unknown
Good with Older Kids: Yes
Health Information: Fred is in good health, neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, and heartworm negative. Four vets have recommended that Fred live in a home with few to no steps. Even though he is able to climb steps, he should not climb them on a daily basis, as that could cause him knee damage over time. It would be best for him to have a fenced-in yard which is fairly level for him to play in.
IAR Sponsored Training: IAR subsidizes post-adoption professional training with Jane Marshall (www.cheerydogs.com) to encourage a life-long and successful bond between the dog and the adopter. Group classes for puppies and adult dogs are provided at a substantial discount to IAR adopters.
